3 Opportunities and 2 risks for creating well designed APIs to access system data and control all your equipment capabilities.
Opportunities of APIs:
- Your user interface/experience is NOT limited to your companies understanding of user needs and ability to interpret those needs
- Create another income stream training others about existing API’s and creating new ones upon demand that increase the value of your product.
- New hardware and/or releases of software including controllers, backend, etc can readily replace existing as long as API calls remain intact
Risks:
- somebody may use your product in an unintended way (also an opportunity if it increases production ready use cases)
- nobody uses it and you’ve wasted money writing code and maintaining it. (added due to a comment)
